The Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region and the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce hosted their First Annual Business and Arts Awards luncheon to honor businesses that support the arts.
The Creative Workspace or Workforce Award, which recognizes either the physical environment of a business or its use of the arts and creativity with its employees, went to The Promenade Shops at Briargate, an open-air lifestyle shopping center that recently added five large-scale pieces of public art that were purchased through Colorado-based Fryberger Art Consulting.
The Philanthropy Award was given to GE Johnson Construction in recognition of the hundreds of thousands of dollars it has donated to the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. The company also gave $15,000 to the 2008 Art on the Streets program.
The Business and Arts Partnership Award, which seeks to recognize businesses that partner with an art organization in ways that go beyond financial giving, was given to two companies, The Citadel mall and Bristol Brewing Company.
The Citadel mall has partnered with the Imagination Celebration for 18 years on a variety of projects and provides space for youth art exhibitions, rehearsals, concerts and multicultural performances.
Bristol Brewing supports a number of nonprofit arts organizations through donations of cash and beer.
