Colorado joins California in green driving campaign

Published August 19, 2008 by CSBJ Staff

Colorado has joined California as the first states to join an Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers’ initiative to reduce fuel use and cut carbon emissions.

Led by Govs. Bill Ritter and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the program calls for drivers to use common sense driving practices to help the environment, including not tailgating, using synchronized traffic lights, driving at the optimum highway speed, understanding when to use air conditioning, knowing which motor oil to use, and understanding the importance of proper tire pressure.

If half of American drivers practiced the EcoDriving principals, organizers estimate that annual CO2 emissions could be reduced by 100 million tons, the equivalent of heating and powering 8.5 million households.

    I don’t tailgate so you won’t have to worry about me landing in your back seat when you slam on the breaks.

    using synchronized traffic lights,

    Where in Colorado Springs do they exist?

    driving at the optimum highway speed,

    …And that is what? The speed limit?

    understanding when to use air conditioning,

    Don’t know about you, but when it’s hot, I use air conditioning.

    knowing which motor oil to use,

    My engine likes synthetic. Any suggestions?

    and understanding the importance of proper tire pressure.

    Hey Gov Ritter! Let me connect an air hose to your mouth. I’m sure you can inflate my tire to the proper PSI.

    So, Ritter is a little Obama clone too.
