On July 29, behind the scenes at the busy U.S. Senior Open kick-off, an intimate ceremony took place on the grounds of the El Pomar complex honoring former United States Golf Association president and golf legend, Judy Bell.
A specially-designed Bell Pavilion just east of Penrose House, housing a 2,000-pound bronze bell that once belonged to Spencer Penrose, was dedicated by El Pomar and USGA officials to recognize Bell’s lifetime achievements.
Credited not only with helping to bring multiple national tournaments to the city, the longtime Colorado Springs resident has worked as an ambassador for the sport, helping introduce golf to youth, minorities and the disabled.
