Bankruptcy filings surge during last 12 months

As the national economy has suffered from financial market fallout, the number of individuals and businesses facing bankruptcy court has grown.

Individual and business bankruptcy filings combined rose 29 percent in the 12 months ending June 30, according to data released Wednesday by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.
