Lineman classes starting soon

Registration for a 15-week lineman course that will train workers to service electrical lines begins today.
Energy officials are hoping the course will address the shortage of skilled workers within the trade.
About half the nation’s 400,000 power industry workers, largely baby boomers, are estimated to be eligible to retire during the next five to 10 years.
Colorado Springs Utilities is pairing with Trinidad State Junior College to launch an electric lineman pre-apprenticeship certificate training in Colorado Springs.
Classes will begin Aug. 25. Total cost – for tuition, books and tools – is about $6,500 for in-state residents.
Experienced journey-level linemen can earn between $60,000 and $100,000 a year.
