State labor department to provide extended unemployment benefits

Up to 13 weeks of Emergency Unemployment Compensation is available for eligible individuals.
EUC benefits will be paid beginning the week of July 6; EUC benefits will not pay for weeks prior to this date.
The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment plans to contact all potentially eligible individuals by telephone and/or letter within seven to 10 days. Individuals should not to call the Unemployment Insurance Program Customer Contact Center telephone numbers.
The process will begin with the department calling and/or mailing a letter about 100,000 individuals:
- Who filed an unemployment insurance claim with a benefit year that ends after May 1, 2007.
- Whose benefits exhausted or claim expired on an unemployment insurance claim with a benefit year that ends after May 1, 2007.
- Who are not eligible for a new unemployment insurance claim.
EUC is available only to unemployed individuals who filed an unemployment insurance claim with a benefit year that ends after May 1, 2007, and that claim must either be expired or exhausted of benefits. In addition, individuals must not be able to collect regular unemployment insurance benefits in:
- Colorado.
- Any other state or U.S. territory.
- Canada.
