Getting hitched? Head downtown

If you’re planning a march down the aisle, you’ll need to visit 200 S. Cascade Ave, the only place to get a marriage license in El Paso County as of July 1.

The good news is that the downtown County Clerk and Recorder’s offices will remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, as announced earlier this month.

The Chapel Hills Mall and Powers El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s satellite offices will no longer have the capability to issue marriage licenses and will both be closed on Fridays.

El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Bob Balink said budget cuts have forced the Clerk and Recorder’s office to consolidate its expanded Recording Department services, effective June 30, 2008.

He said the expense of maintaining a Recording Department technician at both branch offices was not justifiable during the County’s current budgetary crisis.
