Western states have second highest compensation costs

Employer costs for employee compensation in private industries in the Western region of the United States were $28.70 per hour during March.
Costs were highest in the Northeast at $30.56 per hour, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, and lowest in the South at $23.90 per hour.
The Midwest recorded costs of $25.98 per hour.
Within the divisions, total compensation costs ranged from $20.11 in the East South Central division to $30.76 in the New England division. The East North Central division averaged $27.04 while the West North Central division averaged $23.65.
Average total compensation was $24.62 in the Mountain division and $30.40 in the Pacific division.
Employer Costs for Employee Compensation are based on the National Compensation Survey, which measures employer costs for wages, salaries, and employee benefits.
