New law expands Medicaid, CHP+ coverage

More children from low-income families will be eligible for health care coverage under Medicaid and the Child Health Plan Plus because of a bill that Gov. Bill Ritter signed this morning.
Ritter signed SB 160 to increase the income level for eligibility for CHP + from 205 percent of the federal poverty level to 225 percent. It also improves the mental health benefits for children in CHP+.
The new law provides eligibility to 32,900 additional children, according to the Colorado Department of Health Policy and Financing. Last year, community health clinics cared for 168,382 children.
