John McCain spoke in Denver this morning and outlined a series of steps he would take as president to end nuclear proliferation and create a more secure world.

The Republican presidential candidate said he would establish a long-term commitment to reduce danger from weapons, while “deploying a safe and reliable nuclear deterrent, robust missile defense and superior conventional forces.”

McCain said tensions with North Korea, due partially to the belief that it has shared nuclear technology with Syria and Iran, as reasons to focus on nuclear security.

“Our highest priority must be to reduce the danger that nuclear weapons will ever be used,” he said. “Such weapons, while still important to deter and attack with weapons of mass destruction against us and our allies, represent the most abhorrent and indiscriminate form of warfare known to man.”
