The Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust dedicated two new energy-efficient houses yesterday that will be used to help low income families buy their first home.
The houses, at 2522 and 2526 West St. Vrain Street are valued at $185,000.
Since 1996, the organization has helped 150 low income families buy homes.
Bob Koenig, RMCLT executive director said the homeowner gets a mortgage for up to $131,000. The balance is covered by a combination of federal low-income housing money, donated materials and services provided by Colorado Springs Utilities, local business and individuals. No El Paso County taxpayer money is used.
The program works in conjunction with Partners in Housing and Greccio Housing.
