Cimarron bridge opening delayed

Even though city officials had hoped to open the Cimarron Street bridge over Interstate 25 tomorrow, the event has been delayed until next week.

City roadway engineering manager Robin Kidder said an opening ceremony is planned for the evening of Wednesday, May 21 and that three lanes of the bridge would be open for traffic the next morning.

The opening was delayed to allow concrete to cure longer. Opening the bridge this week could have caused cracks in the surface that would not have posed a structural or safety hazard but rather a maintenance headache, Kidder said.

Two eastbound lanes will open and one westbound lane will open. The remaining westbound will remain closed until August while crews finish sidewalk work, Kidder said.
