The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will offer a $30,000 purse for a record-setting run in this year’s event July 20.
The cash incentive is the result of a collaboration among the PPIHC, the Colorado Springs Auto Dealers Association, and Tire Centers Inc. to reward an individual who sets a record of 10 minutes or less during 2008, said Bob Gillis, chairman of the board of the PPIHC.
The purse is available to the driver of any normal car or truck entry received for this year’s event who breaks the 10-minute barrier on Race Day. The record will need to be broken over the full and complete race course. In the event that the race course is shortened because of any weather or other issues, the purse would not be awarded.
