Investment fraud nets Littleton man 30-year sentence

Charles Lewis will have to surpass current life expectancy rates to outlive his prison sentence.

Lewis, 72, of Littleton, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for his role in a fraudulent “high yield investment scheme.”

U.S. District Court Judge Robert E. Blackburn handed down the punishment yesterday and ordered Lewis to pay restitution to victims.

Earlier this week the scheme’s leader, Norman Schmidt, was sentenced to serve 330 years in federal prison – the longest crime sentence in Colorado history for corporate fraud.

Lewis and Schmidt defrauded hundreds of investors in a high-yield investment scheme.
