Forever stamps a pretty penny this week
Published April 29, 2008 by CSBJ Staff
Rising fuel prices are a big reason the U.S. Post Office will raise the postage price of the U.S. first class one-ounce letter from 41 cents to 42 cents on May 12.

Also, the cost of mailing a postcard will increase from 26 cents to 27 cents. The fee for a money order up to $500 remains at $1.05, and the price of mailing a priority mail large flat-rate box anywhere in the U.S. remains $12.95.
The United States Postal Service has incurred higher operating costs due to rising fuel, transportation and medical prices.
Post Office officials said a one-cent increase in fuel prices translates to $8 million in higher fuel costs annually for the USPS.
The price hikes mean that purchasing Forever Stamps might make more sense than ever. Forever stamps will always be good for mailing a one-ounce letter regardless of future rate hikes.
Stamps can be purchased at www.usps.com or by calling 1-800-STAMP-24.

I think the increase is actually Monday May 12th - not May 5th. Fact Check??
Hey, you’re right, Anonymous. The increase becomes effective May 12. Sorry for the error. I’ll change the text above.
