Police summon downtown bar owners

Colorado Springs Police want to have a meeting with downtown bar owners and liquor licensees.
The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Gold Hill Division station at 955 W. Moreno.
Gold Hill Division Commander Kurt Pillard said the meeting is intended as chance for bar owners to meet police that patrol the downtown area and a chance to share information about how to curb downtown crime.
“It’ll give us a chance to get to know each other,” he said. “Then if there’s an incident, you know who you’re going to be dealing with and it avoids a situation where you’re flipping through the white pages trying to find out who you should contact.”
The meetings will be held on a regular basis, Pillard said. But, no future meetings are scheduled yet.
The first bar owner meeting was held in February after a number of fights had broken out on Tejon Street when bars closed. About 25 bar owners attended that meeting.
Pillard said he’s hoping as many as 50 owners will attend tomorrow’s meeting.
