Taxis the issue for two-way Tejon
Published April 22, 2008 by CSBJ Staff
The most significant issue during two weeks of two-way Tejon Street traffic is not automobile and pedestrian accidents as many had expected, but rather taxi cab pick ups and drop offs.
City traffic engineer Dave Krauth said the stops are clogging traffic.
“We haven’t gotten any reports of auto or pedestrian accidents,” he said. “That doesn’t mean they haven’t happened. We just haven’t heard about them. But we have gotten some complaints about the taxis stopping traffic at night.”
Krauth said he plans to talk to police next week to find a solution to the night time traffic stalls.
He said it could be a matter of more street-side signs or possibly a city ordinance restricting the stops.

So, if there is a city ordinance restricting the stops, is going to be more difficult for drunks to get a taxi?
Nice move, Colorado Springs. I suppose the increased DUI arrests will bring good revenue to the city.
I’m very tired of the Monday morning quarterbacking mentality. ‘Traffic control’ was designed to achieve safety and fluency - not revenue. Street improvements are supposed to be beneficial to the residents / consumers. Who didn’t speak up when this issue came to mind??? Who blew that person (on the committee) off when the issue was raised??? Come on - be responsible with these changes.
This is further proof that we are not a city who fully embraces public transportation. Otherwise this slip up probably would have been caught beforehand. They should have just halted the traffic altogether and paved the street for a public walkway.
