USA Cycling probably not pedaling away

If the El Paso County Assessor’s warranty deed records of December 31 and February 25 are any indication, USA Cycling is here to stay.
On New Year’s Eve a 1.91-acre property at 5935 Delmonico Drive was deeded to USA Cycling at a sales price of $0 by a member of the Jenkins family, owners of Nor’Wood Development.
In other words, a section of the North Pointe Center property was, at least in part, donated to the cycling national governing body.
In addition to land, USA Cycling will receive the use of a two-story retail and office building for its use.
While Economic Development Corp. Vice President Kara Roberts would not confirm the information, pending the completion of “intricate” negotiations still under way, she acknowledged that a deal had been in the works for several months.
The news has been circulating throughout the commercial real estate community for more than a month.
The assessor’s market value of the property was listed at $691,513, though that figure doesn’t necessarily represent the actual commercial market value of the land and building.
Chris Jenkins, president of Nor’Wood Development was contacted by phone and through e-mail, but he could not be reached for comment.
