USA Basketball looking to move from Springs
Published October 25, 2007 by CSBJ Staff
USA Basketball is looking to move its headquarters and training facilities out of Colorado Springs after the 2008 Summer Games.
USA Basketball, the national governing body for men’s and women’s basketball in the U.S., has issued a request for proposal to cities interested in forging a long-term partnership.
More than 20 cities have expressed interest.
USA Basketball apparently wants to consolidate its executive and training operations into a single, state-of-the-art location.
“Over the years we have been approached by various cities interested in serving as the new headquarters of USA Basketball,” said Val Ackerman, President of USA Basketball. The RFP process will help us determine whether we can forge a long-term partnership that will be in the best interests of USA Basketball, the host city and the sport itself.
Responses to the RFP are due Dec. 20. Officials plan to make a decision next summer.

WELL, COLORADO SPRINGS, ARE WE JUST GOING TO SIT HERE AND WATCH THEM LEAVE OR ARE WE PREPARING A PROPOSAL TO ENTICE THEM TO STAY HERE?
I talked to Mike Kazmierski of the EDC today. He said they’re crafting a retention plan real quicklike. Although he admitted that we likely won’t be able to compete with at least one interested city - Las Vegas.
