Crossing the line

Being a journalist isn’t always easy, especially when it comes to relationships. To do our jobs we have to get to know people; but, we also have to maintain our integrity.
And since we’re not machines, we also need to have friends and loved-ones in our personal lives. But sometimes the lines get way more blurred than they should.
Telemundo newscaster Mirthala Salinas was having a relationship with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, while at the same time reporting about the breakup of his marriage. She’s been suspended for two months for violating the company’s conflict-of-interest policy.
Determining how close is too close is never simple, but this situation it seems, at least to me, should have been a no-brainer.
