Low Carbon Economy Act
Published July 17, 2007 by Ray Champagne
Interesting Junk Science story today on Foxnews.com about the Low Carbon Economy Act, or as the author, Steven Milloy, calls it “The Trillion Dollar Giveaway and Wealth Redistribution Act.”
I’ve never really bought into the whole “global warming” frenzy — especially given how cold things were last winter. My theory, for what it’s worth, is that the earth has always gone through cycles of warming and cooling, and that you can get a computer model to give you just about any result you want depending on the numbers you plug in at the beginning.
But despite whether you believe global warming is fact or fiction, any time the federal government gets involved with something in the trillion-dollar category, it’s probably a good idea to pay attention — and keep a tight grip on your wallet.

Wow! Talk about being in the dark ages! Here are just a few facts for you (http://www.ourmidland.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=18588959&BRD=2289&PAG=461&dept_id=472539&rfi=6). For a newspaper guy you sure haven’t done a lot of investigative work! The world is full of evidence of global warming. However if you’re relying on FOX news and the Bush Admin well then no wonder you’ve been hoodwinked!
Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t give much validity to someone who isn’t firm enough in their convictions or opinions to post their name.
And I do think there is enough science on both sides of the debate that an absolute conclusion is impossible to arrive at.
It was cold last winter and every winter, but the relevant issue is the average temps, and that was the warmest in recorded history last winter. The main problems I have with the LCEA is that it doesn’t do enough and fast enough. This would be heresy to the misinformation machine at Fox Noise, but Global Warming deniers are dying faster than the planet, especially since their pride and joy, the idiotic “sun is causing the warming” argument was beaten to death by reason an science last week. We need to cut GHG emissions 20% by 2020, and 80% by mid-century. We have 2 bills that require that. The Sanders-Boxer Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act (S.309), and the Waxman Safe Climate Act (H.R. 1590). The main problem with US legislation is that it doesn’t change the rest of the world and China just past us as the #1 GHG polluter on earth. They’re in the middle of a coal fired industrial revolution and destined to set new records for pollution that our legislation won’t stop. India’s in the same boat. That’s what made Kyoto such a great first step, but of course the neocons can’t see beyond stealing oil from Iraq at the point of the gun as a sustainable business model from the “Chicago School”. Personally I like incentive programs and not punitive measures like taxes, but this is a crises on which the deniers have killed all progress, until it’s almost too late. I like cap and trade better than taxes too, but I would rather drown than burn to death and both are no good. Cap and trade at least uses the market, but it’s no more a profitable than moving your money from your left pocket to your right. The “Enron shuffle”.

Not sure that one year makes a trend, but I’m glad to see that you’re hitting all the talking points. And if we actually are stealing oil from Iraq (which I don’t think we’re doing), shouldn’t the price of gasoline be falling? Oh wait, the price of gas increasing is a conspiracy among the big oil companies to jack up their profits, right? Do tell me that you have at least a few talking points on that topic as well.
I’m sure 1 year doesn’t make a trend, but it does make a rebuttal to your post that it was cold last winter therefore Global Warming is “junk science”. The fact that the 5 warmest years in the last century are 2006, 2002, 2003, and 1998 is a trend. A very obvious and scary trend.
If you mean by “talking points” do I have any other facts and data, sure. I have all the facts a data. See, that’s how I make up my mind about something. I find all the facts and data I can, and then (and only then) come to a conclusion.
Yes, without a doubt the US oil corporations are working together to artificially raise the price of gasoline from their US refineries. (while Fox Noise and the GAGzette play the racist card of “it’s them damn Arabs”) It’s an uncapitalistic, unAmerican, and illegal thing to to do, but there are oil men watching the oil companies, so they can do what they want. Their resulting profits are world records. Carefully planned “routine maintenace”, suspicious explosions and fires, and underproduction are a simple way to game the system for profit or even political favors, like the 70 cent drop in the 60 days before the midterm elections.
The Iraq oil bill, to privatize 2/3 of their oil (notice the possessive pronoun) rejected by their VP, parliament, the oil workers union, all other Iraqi unions, the Kurds, and all others that aren’t puppets of the viche puppets, is indeed theft. It’s not even the usual corrupt business deal with some dictator of some western African country. They wouldn’t have to transfer any technology, train Iraqi workers, share skills, use the judicial system for disputes, or invest a penny in Iraq: Theft.
Hmmm…160 largest copmanies are getting in on this…http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=38579
